Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from shops and vehicle owners.

ADAS Calibration

When is ADAS calibration required?+

After windshield replacement, collision repair, suspension work, wheel alignments, bumper work, or module replacement — anytime a camera, radar, or lidar sensor is removed, reinstalled, or its mounting position is disturbed. It has become a routine part of repair work on many modern vehicles, not an occasional extra step.

What is the difference between static and dynamic calibration?+

Static calibration uses target boards set up in a controlled space at precise measured distances from the vehicle. Dynamic calibration requires a road test under OEM-specified conditions. Some vehicles need one, some need both, depending on the manufacturer and the system being calibrated.

What does Soter Auto include in its documentation?+

Every calibration includes detailed reporting suitable for supplement requests, insurance claims, and shop records — showing what was calibrated and confirming successful completion.

Are pre- and post-scans included or separate?+

That's part of setting up a working process with your shop. Reach out and we'll confirm exactly what's included for your specific workflow before the first job.

Can calibration be performed at my shop?+

Yes — mobile calibration is central to what we do. We bring the equipment to your shop rather than requiring you to tow a vehicle elsewhere, which is a big part of what keeps cycle time and towing costs down.

What space and floor conditions are required?+

Depends on whether the job is static or dynamic. Static calibrations need a level, clear space with room for target placement; dynamic calibrations require a road test. We'll confirm exact requirements for your shop when we set up the job.

Which makes and systems can be calibrated?+

All makes and models, subject to OEM procedure and equipment requirements — including growing coverage for EV platforms like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid. Exact system coverage depends on OEM procedure and software availability for a given vehicle, so send us the year/make/model and we'll confirm.

How long does a typical calibration take?+

It varies by vehicle and by how many systems need calibration. A single camera calibration is typically quicker than a job requiring both static and dynamic procedures across multiple systems. We give you a time estimate when we schedule the job.

How is pricing determined?+

Pricing depends on the vehicle, the systems being calibrated, and whether the job requires static, dynamic, or both procedures. Contact us with your vehicle details for a quote.

What happens when an OEM software fee is required?+

Some manufacturers charge a separate OEM software or subscription fee for certain calibration procedures. When that applies to your vehicle, we'll let you know up front before the job is scheduled — no surprise line items.

Mobile Electrical Diagnostics

What does mobile electrical diagnosis include?+

Advanced electrical troubleshooting — no-starts, parasitic battery drains, warning lights, shorts, bad grounds, and wiring faults — diagnosed on site using the same disciplined, systematic approach used in aircraft electrical work.

Can every electrical problem be solved in one visit?+

Most electrical issues can be diagnosed, and often resolved, in a single visit. Some problems uncover a need for parts that must be ordered, or point to an issue better handled in a shop with a lift. When that's the case, we'll tell you plainly rather than stringing out multiple visits.
